Product Designer w/Manufacturing Focus

The Role

Win-Shield Devices is seeking a highly skilled Product Designer with strong expertise in design for manufacturing (DFM), particularly for thermoplastic injection molding. This role includes ownership of components and assemblies from concept through production, with a focus on ensuring designs are manufacturable, robust, and ready for scale.

Requested Qualifications

  • 5+ years of relevant industry experience in mechanical or product design.

  • Expert-level 3D modeling skills, preferably in Fusion 360 or Solid Works.

  • Proven experience with designing parts for thermoplastic injection molding.

  • Strong understanding of manufacturing fundamentals, including tolerancing, assembly methods, draft angles, ribs/bosses, shrinkage, and mold design considerations.

  • Experience taking products from prototype to production—preferably in mechanical, consumer, defense, medical, or industrial hardware.

  • Working knowledge of electrical/electronic integration in product design, including mounting considerations for PCBs, routing for wiring/harnesses, and enclosure design for powered components.

  • Ability to work with engineers and cross-functional teams in a fast-paced development environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with toolmakers and injection molding vendors.

  • Knowledge of GD&T, mold flow analysis, or tool design principles.

  • Experience in respiratory protection, PPE, or other regulated hardware sectors is an asset.

  • Background in rapid prototyping, additive manufacturing, or machining.

Responsibilities

  • Develop high-quality 3D CAD models, assemblies, and drawings using Fusion 360 (or similar CAD platforms).

  • Collaborate closely with engineering, R&D, and manufacturing teams to translate prototype concepts into production-ready designs.

  • Apply DFM best practices, with a strong emphasis on thermoplastic injection molding, mold flow considerations, parting lines, draft, uniform wall thickness, gating, and tooling constraints.

  • Prepare detailed technical drawings and specifications suitable for North American and international manufacturers.

  • Support prototype development, iterative testing, and design refinement cycles.

  • Work with toolmakers, injection molding partners, and internal teams to ensure manufacturability, cost efficiency, and robustness of all designed components.

  • Participate in design reviews, failure analysis, and product improvement discussions.

  • Maintain organized design files, revision control, and project documentation.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Fabrication & Paint Technician

The Role

Win-Shield Devices is seeking a Fabrication & Paint Technician to support our R&D Lab in the final stages of assembling critical assemblies. Reporting to the Senior R&D Lab Technician, this role involves hands-on fabrication, finishing, assembly, and organization of components used in respirator and protective equipment development. Opportunity to contribute to innovative Canadian-made products used in critical industries.

This positing is ideal for someone who enjoys detailed, hands-on work in a busy shop environment and can manage repetitive tasks while maintaining a high standard of quality and precision.

Requested Qualifications

  • Experience handling precision parts and materials requiring careful application techniques

  • Autobody painting / finishing would be considered an asset

  • Production, fabrication, or finishing experience

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to perform precision work

  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing

  • Ability to follow written procedures and work instructions

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and shifting priorities

  • Good organizational skills and reliability

  • Experience with power hand tools

Responsibilities

  • Support R&D and prototype development activities

  • Operate vacuum casting equipment

  • Perform hands-on casting, trimming, sanding, finishing, and painting of parts

  • Mix and handle two-part resins, urethanes, adhesives, and coatings

  • Bond and assemble components using adhesives and fastening methods

  • Clean, inspect, label, and organize finished parts and materials

  • Maintain organized inventory and monitor supply levels

  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and quality requirements

  • Assist with part storage, labeling, and shop organization

  • Support general shop operations and maintenance of a clean workspace

  • Perform repetitive production tasks while maintaining attention to detail

Working Conditions

  • Small shop and laboratory environment

  • Exposure to adhesives, paints, solvents, resins, and other shop materials

  • Standing and repetitive hand work for extended periods

  • Use of PPE and safe Handling procedures required
